One week ago

It’s a week ago that we left Dubai. At this time last week we flew over Georgia and had a few more hours till landing in Kiev. I don’t really have to tell you that we miss the vacation, the city, my parents, my friends, the sun, the beach and this amazing view…

Dubai 2010 – Day 12 – Going home

We woke up early to get to the airport on time. We left the apartment and said goodbye to my Mom at around 4 a.m. Dad and Little brother drove us to the airport and our long trip started.

At the airport we checked in, it took forever, but we found out that our trip was going to be delayed about an hour. Since our flight from Kiev was going to be leaving about 3 hours from our arrival time, we weren’t worried at all.

We walked around the stores and the Duty Free shops and bought some candy and chips to have on the plane. We wanted to make sure that we’d have something to nibble on on the flight, because we know what kind of crap food we were going to be served.

Dubai International Airport – where they do have wi-fi =) We ate some breakfast and then we just sat and waited for the departure time.

Then finally we got to leave

Up in the air – crossing Iran we believe…

Look at those mountains aren’t they great =)

We were served sweet and sour chicken and rice for breakfast – TGiMcD  and candy. AeroSvit what the hell???

Ukraine.

After arrival in Kiev, Ukraine we were informed, well not informed per say, we had to figure that out ourselves by checking the tickets, nothing on the flight boards, no information anywhere or by anyone – that we were 4 hours delayed. Thank you AeroSvit! That would mean that our party at New Years Eve in Uppsala at K2 & K3 house was somewhat in the crapper – but we were determined to make it. So I sent an SMS to my friend Berget and her A2, whom we were supposed to pick up on our way to Uppsala, and told her that she had to make their own way to Uppsala. And also that she would have to make my dessert that I had been in charge of. No worries!

Now it was just time for us to sit back and wait and wait and wait….I don’t think I had to tell you that that made me really irritated…

Finally it was time to get on the plane and we set of towards Stockholm. At the airport we realized that our bags had been broken into and the bags had been destroyed. So our being 4 hours late, wasn’t enough, we had to report the damage on the bag and then we started walking towards the parking. The car had been stowed away in an outdoor parking although under roof and therefore we didn’t have to dig the car out of all the snow that had come since we had been gone. A quick defrost and we were on our way

The snowfall had become lots and lots more since we had landed and the road to Uppsala was snowy and non plowed, but we made it there in not time and as soon as we got there the horrible nervous feeling rolled off me and I was so happy…

Now a New Years party with the best of friends…. but more on that later!

Dubai 2010 – Day 11

Today, being the last day in Dubai, was supposed to be really nice and calm and relaxing. Just hanging out with my parents and just making sure that we got everything that we wanted and make a last trip to Carefour (supermarket) to buy some groceries that we wanted to bring to Sweden…

Unfortunetly that isn’t really what happened…

In the morning we realized that the fridge had stopped working – there was a large water leak and the compressor stopped. So we had to get a new fridge a.s.a.p (since it was Thursday, Friday and Saturdays are days of in Dubai as well as Friday being New Years.).

We woke up and decided not to go to the beach until a little later since my Mom told her manicurist to come early. Unfortunely she arrived late so we would have had time to go to the beach for a couple of hours. But I did get a manicure and a pedicure. And then we went to the hairdresser to give me a quick haircut. I look like a new person =) No not really – but it sure is nice to get it all done at once…

Mai and Omar were one their way and we were going to meet them at The Emirates Mall, but it was time to drop Mom of at work and then Andy and I continued to the Mall. Mai’s husband Waleed also met us at The Emirates Mall, but unfortunetly we didn’t have to much time to hang with them since we had to see if we could get a fridge delivered. But we decided that they were going to come with us back home to have dinner together, one last time before we left. When we got going from the mall, we went to pick up my Mom, but my Dad called and said that he had found a fridge and a store that deliver today… So off we went to Time Square to buy the fridge together with my Mom and Dad.

After buying the fridge, we went back home to see Mai, Waleed and Omar being there. We started making dinner and we had another Egyptian dinner – this time it was actually an Egyptian breakfast with foul (brown beans), misshh (strong cheese and tomato mix), taymeya (Egyptian falafel – green bean paste, fried in oil), white goat cheese and Egyptian flat bread. It’s the best breakfast ever – unfortunetly we don’t get to eat it a lot but it really is one of my absolute favorites!

Foul, 2 different kinds and taymeya.

Egyptian pickles – Torshi , eggplant pickles and green olives.

Misshh – a mixture of strong cheese, usually aged mixed with diced tomatoes.

YUMMY!

After dinner Mai, Waleed and Omar said their goodbyes and we finished our packing. We wanted to make sure we had a couple of hours of sleep before we went of to the airport for our trip back home to Sweden.

Our Dubai 2010 trip is over for this time. Thank you soo much Mom and Dad – we’ve had a really great time and it has been relaxing and fun and we’ve enjoyed ourselves. Thank you for everything!
